Khandala is another popular hill station close to Lonavala. These are called twin hill stations together. Nestled in the Western Ghats that demarcate the Deccan Plateau and the Konkan coast are spread over an approximate area of 38 sq. km. The best time to visit Lonavala and Khandala is the winter season (November to February), but if one really wants to enjoy the real beauty, visit it during monsoon or just after monsoon. During the monsoons, the mist and the crispy air, coupled with the falls and the hills form an interesting combination that most visitors find worth exploring. In this period, Lonavala is also referred to as “The Heaven on the Earth”.

By Rail, Lonavala hill station has its own railway station, which falls on the main railway line between Mumbai and Pune. All the express trains going from Pune to Mumbai, and vice-versa, pass through Lonavala.
By Road, Lonavala is situated at a distance of only 62 km from Pune and 96 km from Mumbai. Buses and taxis are easily available to reach Lonavala from the neighboring cities. |
